She received her BS in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and after working for 7 years at Westinghouse in the field of nuclear power, she pursued a career in medicine. She earned her MD from Thomas Jefferson University and completed her OB-GYN residency at the Viginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She received a certificate in biblical studies from Columbia International University.
